Paul Goodison (CEO, Cormant): "Implementation and Data Integration make up to 50% of the costs for a DCIM project"
Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) is a hot topic wherever members of data centre branches meet. Many of the presentations at the "AFCOM Data Centre World Show" at the end of April in Las Vegas discussed DCIM. Paul Goodison, CEO of Cormant (formerly CableSolve), raised a particularly important issue in his presentation, namely the costs involved with implementation and data migration. He estimated that these costs account for up to 50% of the total costs of a DCIM project. Broaching this important issue is particularly remarkable because while most companies will include items for the implementation of the system in their tenders, they often do not mention the costs involved with data migration, leaving these, more or less tacitly, to be covered by the customers themselves. It is often difficult to pre-determine costs in regards to the supply and validation of data and the coordination of various sources for a DCIM project, which means that there can indeed be enormous hidden costs involved.
